Maritime Archaeology Trip
Led by Dr. Lindley Vann, we began our two weeks in Antalya, traveled west along the Mediterranean shore and continued up the Aegean coast, enjoying boat trips, sunken cities, crusader castles, underwater archaeology museums, beach lunches and, as usual, incomparable food. Plus, we enjoyed a day at Ephesus with a very special guide.
Cuisine, Wine and Culture Tour
Our trip took us along the western coast of Turkey where we met with a number of food exports. Whether visiting wineries to learn about Turkish wine (and sample some), olive groves to see oil processing, or fresh markets to eat like a local, our stomachs were our grateful guides.
Turkey Behind the Headlines
A special travel experience along Turkey’s southern coast with Byzantine and Ottoman experts and a nautical archeologist to help us understand the ancient civilizations that inhabited the area. As usual, we enjoyed delicious Mediterranean food, the finest Turkish cuisine and wines.
Philadelphia: Penn Museum and Longwood Gardens
A small but eager group traveled to Philadelphia on Sunday, May 5, to meet with Prof. Brian Rose of the University of Pennsylvania, to listen to his lecture on the Phrygian civilization (8th Century B.C.E.) and view important artifacts in the Penn Museum with him. Following our “indoors” education, we traveled to the Longwood Gardens for our “outdoor” education, and an afternoon of glorious sunshine and flowers.
Trip to Paris and the Louvre
During a four-day trip to Paris, we were privileged to have a private tour of the Louvre’s new Islamic galleries with America’s foremost authority on Islamic art and architecture, Dr. Walter Denny. We also enjoyed a four-hour guided bus tour of Paris, nights in a chic hotel and personal time.
